Uttar Pradesh ranks 4th in terms of pulses production in India. And, the annual production of pulses in India from UP stands at 2621.15 tonnes in FY 2024-25. Gram pulse tops the pulse name list as it has the highest crop area for production. The government of Uttar Pradesh take initiative to update 2000 rice mills in order to produce high quality rice. The government is working in the direction to support rice mills to upgrade their machinery, focus on capacity building, and make use of modern technology. The rice mills are also focussing on production of fortified rice for fulfilling nutritional needs of the population. The state has more than 4000 rice, dal and roller flour mills. The neighbouring state of Uttarakhand has more than 393.79 lakh ha area under rice cultivation and has the presence of more than 600 rice, dal and flour mills. Bihar, an adjacent state of Uttar Pradesh has more than 3000 rice mills, dal mills and flour mills and is one of the emerging grain markets in India.
